Enabling Automated Project Backups

There is an internally written backup utility for backing up an ABBYY Flexicapture Project to an AWS S3 bucket. To enable this on a client system, follow the below steps:

1. On the client's server IMPORTANT, this must be the ABBYY Processing Service as FCAdminTools.exe is used) download the latest release of the backup utility https://wfd-public.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/ABBYY+Utilities/WFD.AbbyyBackupUtility.zip

2. Unzip the application files to a local folder, following a standard naming convention of C:\wfd\Backups\WFD.AWS.BackupUtility

3. Execute the WFD.AWS.AbbyyBackup.exe program

4. Follow through the initial config detailed in the console window, for this you will need:

  1. AWS Access Key
  2. AWS Secret Key
  3. AWS Bucket Name
  4. ABBYY Project Name
  5. ABBYY Server Name (this is NOT including the base URL e.g. http://localhost OR https://europe.flexicapture.com)
  6. ABBYY Tenant Name (Leave blank for an on-premise install)
  7. ABBYY User (an ABBYY user name that has ABBYY Admin rights. You may need to create a new user in Admin & Monitoring console. If this is required, use the username "apiaccess")
  8. ABBYY password (if a new user is created, the password will be as set above)
  9. Temporary download location (a local temporary storage path)
  10. ZIP File Password (the password to use when encrypting the generated ZIP file) NOTE: this should stay on the client-server and not be stored elsewhere.

5. Once configured, the application will automatically execute

6. If successful, setup the executable to run as a daily scheduled task

By default, the backup utility will only keep files in S3 for max 7 days. After which they will be automatically cleared down.
